Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s day in my house has always been a special day.  Now more than ever because I am married to a Veteran.  For those that don’t celebrate it, Veteran’s Day falls on November 11th.  Its origins mark the end of World War I where on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in the year 1918 an armistice was achieved, and the fighting came to its end. Veteran’s day has gone by several names. First it was known as Armistice Day it became Veteran’s Day on May 13, 1936, though it is sometimes known as Remembrance Day in the commonwealth of Nations.

Even though Veteran’s Day has always held a special place in my heart I have also gotten its representation confused with that of Memorial Day, a federal Holiday that lands in May.  The difference of the two days is that Veteran’s Day honors the Veterans while Memorial Day honors those who have died while in service to their country.  Though my husband states that when people thank him for his service on Memorial Day, he appreciates it nevertheless. There is one more day that is celebrated that not many know about called Armed Forces Day that lands on the 3rd Saturday of May.  That day is for all the men and women that are currently serving in the U.S military.
